2015 Tall Sage Chardonnay
2015 vintage is one of the hottest growing seasons on record. The warmth began early in the growing season and continued uninterrupted with almost of two weeks of temperatures in the high 90s or 100s. The consistent warmth allowed sugar to develop quickly in many varieties. By mid-September, the heat began to moderate with perfect cooler temperatures prevailing for the remainder of the season. The result was a well-paced, balanced maturation of flavors for the remainder of the harvest. Vineyard canopies were carefully managed to protect grapes from the extreme heat and sun. De-leafing and deficit irrigation was moderated during this vintage to allow the vines to cope with the hot season.
This Chardonnay is a pure expression of tropical and floral aromas and bright juicy fruit due to a deliberate, cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation was induced once alcoholic fermentation completed and the wine cleanly racked before full completion to preserve natural acidity and the fresh, crisp fruit flavors. Aging for several months on lees enhanced the mouthfeel, imparting a rich texture that lifts the fruit.
The 2015 Tall Sage Chardonnay is a clean, refreshing wine with expressive, exotic aromas of kaffir lime, jasmine, and baked apple. A rich, bright mouthfeel full of juicy apple, pear, and pineapple is layered over a soft underlying mineral texture. The finish is full and lingering with bright flavors of Valencia orange and apricot.
